Man ports Android to iPhone. Angels cry.

I mean, why? Do you think there are iPhone users out there who actually would want to run Android on their iPhone? I don’t.

It’s an impressive feat, from an engineering angle. But from a “is this a good use of my time” angle, I’d have to say no.

What in the world could be under the sheet?

OK, so anyone with half a brain can figure out that Transmit is about to receive a major update. I’m not saying I know anything about said update, but if I did, I’d probably tell you that it not only updates one of the most beloved FTP apps for the Mac platform, but it also catapults it over the heads of the competition.

At any rate, we’ll all find out in 7 days time.

Gizmodo: This is Apple’s next iPhone

OK, I’ll accept that this is “Apple’s next iPhone”.

However, I’d like to know if Apple had the ability to remote wipe the device, they also should have had the capability to remotely locate the device with Mobile Me’s “Find My iPhone” feature. The question is, why didn’t they?

For Apple’s sake, I hope this is the real deal. Or at least, I hope the feature set of this prototype represents the final shipping product. Otherwise, there are going to be lots of disappointed iPhone fanatics if the final product doesn’t include front facing cameras or a built in Flash.

Why is HTML5 such a big deal?

Look through this slide presentation (which itself uses HTML5) to see what comprises HTML5 and how it can be used.

All we need now is an authoring tool that simplifies the creation of rich HTML5 content. Somehow, I don’t see Adobe stepping up to the plate.

Chatty Steve: iPad 3G bumped back to late May

Not surprising, considering the demand. You have to ask yourself though, why is Steve Jobs being so forthcoming lately?

“Promoted Tweets”

Twitter will soon be adding paid results to your Twitter stream. First in search results, and later, in everyone’s Twitter feed. Seems to me that this effectively reduces the ability for Twitter client developers to make money by inserting their own ads in the Twitter feed. Couple this with Twitter’s recent purchases of desktop and mobile client Twitter clients, and it is suddenly not a great time to be depending upon Twitter clients for revenue.

iPad detection with Javascript and PHP

Stuff like this scares me in general. I mean, serving up a different version of your site for 3.5″ mobile device makes sense. But the iPad is designed to be a great web device, and shouldn’t dictate a separate web site, optimized for the iPad be served up. There are exceptions of course, but the last thing we need is a more fragmented web.

Developers are going to love this thing

Brent Simmons:

We’re not giving out the actual numbers, but I will tell you this, and I think this is very cool. The iPad app, within five days, made us more money than the iPhone app has in its existence over the last six months or something.
