I’ve been using Cyndicate for the last 24 hours and I am really enjoying it. I find it has a much better approach than NewsFire. However, after reading a bit on the developers, I’ve uncovered this. Not to let a story be told from one side, there is also this.
I don’t know. $30 is a good bit of money to invest in an app with this much drama behind it.

That huge ass background graphic you use on your site is very annoying on a broadband connection.
On an iPhone over an EDGE connection, it is down right sadistic.
Please, get rid of it.

Roughly Drafted has written what I consider to be the clearest explanation of the Press and their penchant for iPhone misinformation dissemination. For those who didn’t catch the latest misinformation dissemination on Neal Cavuto’s program yesterday, RDM does an excellent job of breaking it down.

Apple has notified the press of a Mac event that will be held on their campus August 7th @ 10AM. Everyone seems to believe this update will definitely be the new iMac, and possibly include an updated iLife and/or iWork.
I’m hoping for an update to the Mac Pros. Although there is a higher end 8 core configuration, the lower end configurations are exactly the same as they were 51 weeks ago when they were announced at WWDC2006.

In anticipation of Leopards arrival, I’ve whipped together a Leopard Countdown widget. Built over an agonizing 5 or 6 minutes using Dashcode, this widget will tick of the seconds, minutes, hours and days until Leoopard makes its debut. Currently the widget assumes the launch date will be October 5th, 2007 at 6PM. Once Apple makes the date/time official, the widget will updated.
Enjoy.

if the $86 fee for Apple to replace your battery sounds a bit too high for you, you’re in luck.
iPodJuice.com offers a replacement battery for the iPhone for $25. There are also options for them to replace the battery for you, and turn it around in 24hours ($70). Their battery has a 10 year guarantee and is available now. Of course, if your iPhone is already in need of a replacement battery, you should probably just contact Apple.

So the iPhone has Bluetooth. I know pairing a earphone/headset is probably the order of the day for most people. But what about pairing a bluetooth keyboard, like the Apple Wireless Keyboard? I wonder if that would work. Tapping out emails on the iPhone looks all well and good when you are mobile, but when you are in the office for 8-10 hours a day, having a bluetooth keyboard paired to the device might make more sense. Apple and AT&T have announced the rate plans for the iPhone. While many had speculated a $35-$45 data plan that would sit on top of a voice plan, the facts reveal a much simpler structure (of course, this is Apple calling the shots, right?).
There are three plans at $59.99 (450 minutes), $79.99 (900 minutes) and $99.99 (1350 minutes). All come with unlimited data for email and web. All come with 200 SMS messages (although you can add SMS plans to any of these plans for additional fees). All plans include unlimited night and weekend minutes, except the $59.99 plan, which includes 5000 night/weekend minutes. Of course, all include unlimited mobile to mobile and rollover minutes. Congratulations to the Camino team for the release of Camino 1.5. Among the many improvements to the Gecko powered / Cocoa flavored web-browser:
- RSS Feed Detection
- Spell Checking
- Session Saving
- Improved Tabbed Browsing
- Improved popup/ad blocking
- Updated Rendering Engine (Mozilla 1.8.1)
I have a soft spot in my heart for Camino. It was the browser that kept me on Mac OS X in the early days before the advent of Safari. Although development hasn’t progressed as fast as many would like, the Camino team put out a top notch, solid product that is used and loved by many.

Scott over at Theocacao has a great little write-up on the wonderful keyboard shortcuts that most people never use in OS X. Most of these were old news to me, as being a Mac-ninja means that you know just about everything and use the tools provided to get things done quicker. This means knowing keyboard shortcuts and using them in place of clicking. (more…)
