Apple has started a new feature on their website entitled “Design Tip of the Week”. Available from their Hot News page, a new tip will be available each week. This week’s tip is on creating your own label names.

Yahoo! Inc. and Musicmatch, Inc. today announced they have signed a definitive agreement under which Yahoo! will acquire Musicmatch for a purchase price of approximately $160 million in cash.
“Yahoo! is committed to being a major player in digital music,” said Terry Semel, chairman and chief executive officer, Yahoo! Inc. “This combination bolsters our strategy to capture the largest audience of consumers as they make the shift to digital music and supports Yahoo!’s goal to give consumers the greatest choice, control and flexibility in how they interact with their music. This acquisition is one of several product innovations and new initiatives in which Yahoo! will invest to build our music portfolio this year and in the future.”
This acquisition allows Yahoo! to combine it’s LAUNCH music portal service with the software pairing of Musicmatch. This will put Yahoo! in a better position to challenge Apple as the #1 supplier of digital music.

Several people have reported that their orders for the new iMac G5 have shipped, according to their status at the Apple Store. Phil Schiller had originally stated that the new iMac would ship in mid September.

Panic, the software company responsible for Audion and Transmit, has released its newest app, Unison. Unison is a news reader that is easy enough for anyone to use. Unison makes using Usenet as Mac-like as possible, cutting through the intracacies of downloading images, music and news threads. Unison is available now for $24.95, with a limited free trial period.

ThinkSecret reports that Real is now testing the RealPlayer for OS X. The article states that no public preview will be released, but that Mac users can expect a release “somtime this year”.
CreativeMac has a review of Flaming Pear’s Super Blade Pro plugin, which is now OS X native. While the OS X version isn’t as fast or robust as the OS 9 version, CreativeMac still gives it a “must buy” label, due in part to it’s high quality output, and low, $30 price.
If you love Navigator/Chimera (like we do), the Cocoa front end to the Mozilla browser, you may want to jump on over to their website and download the newest build, 0.28, which includes autocomplete, a Go menu, Bookmarks with icons (in the menu bar and personal toolbar), downloads that will now at least show progress, a security indicator, and plugin fixes.
